So what is the difference between a dildo and a vibrator? Many people confuse the two, and I know that when I first started using sexual toys I also had no idea that there was even a difference. Basically, a vibrator is a battery powered toy that vibrates, whether it is meant for insertion or external stimulation. A dildo is designed for either vaginal or anal insertion and it does not vibrate. Dildos are used to create a sensation of internal pressure that many find stimulating. However, there are always exceptions to the rules, aren’t there? Some dildos do vibrate; you’ll find these referred to as “vibrating dildo” or “twice as nice.”
Although I have used both dildos and vibrators, I prefer the clitoral stimulation I receive from using a vibrator. If it’s penetration you crave, I would suggest opting for a realistic dildo, like the The Governor. For the best of both worlds, you can choose a vibrating dildo like the Hot Pink Dildo Vibe, but make sure the vibrations are enough to get you off and that the toy is the size you want for penetration. Many women find that using the combination of a dildo and vibrator brings them the most supreme satisfaction.
There are tons of variations of the two and it may seem overwhelming to determine the best one for you. Out of the thousands of sex toys on the market today, even the most seasoned sex toy purchaser may find it all confusing.
The first thing you’ll want to do is figure out how you best reach orgasm. I know that I best reach orgasm through clitoral stimulation. In fact, clitoral stimulation is how the majority of women reach sexual release. But, there are those that reach orgasm through penetration. Also, do you like your stimulation to be on the softer side or do you prefer a very strong vibration? There really is no right or wrong way to go about reaching orgasm and it’s all about what works best for your own personal enjoyment.
Once you decide between a vibrator or a dildo or even both, you’ll have to wade through the many choices that are out there! Do you prefer variable speed; hands free; twice as nice; remote control; waterproof; bullets ? And, what about all those different materials – Silicone, Glass, Jelly, Acrylic and Elastomer ? As you can see there’s a lot to choose from. Again, it really comes down to your personal preferences.
Do you like something a little more pliable and giving with penetration ? If so, silicone and jelly is nice for this. The silicone will hold heat and can be sterilized. If you like a silky smooth slippery feeling, then glass or acrylic would be the best choice. Both the glass and acrylic are non-porous allowing them to stay smooth and slick for long periods of time. One thing to remember about glass and acrylic is that since there is no give to the surface of these toys they will feel larger than a toy of the same size made of silicone or jelly. The best way to find out what works best for you is to experiment with different kinds until you find the right one that helps you reach your highest climax.
